Drilling for Lithium, Gold Copper & Uranium
We’ve recently read reports from leading exploration professional organizations SME and PDAC that exploration investment is down somewhat. While that concerns us, we also realize that while some trends are on a downward trajectory, others are on an upward trajectory. The challenge for many exploration drilling companies (like us) is having the skill set to transition for the exploration demands of a different mineral.
At KP Exploration, we are faced with that challenge just like all the other companies. Sometimes it not just knowing how to run an RC rig or a Core Rig; sometimes its knowing the historical industry techniques needed to recover a certain element and having considerable drilling experience in a variety of geologic conditions.
For instance, KP Exploration has recent experience drilling for lithium in all of its various forms; pegmatite/spodumene, clay-hosted, and lithium brine. While all seeking the same or similar metal, the exploration techniques required for coring in clay is vastly different than coring in rock hosted formations, for instance.
Uranium is another one of those tricky elements. Historically, there has been a variety of coring techniques used to recover Uranium. While RC and Diamond core have been used, KP Exploration has been involved in projects using a combination of conventional coring techniques much like those used in other drilling, such as that used in drilling water wells. The advantage is being able to drill through sometimes difficult upper formations with one technique, and drilling through the ore zone with another.
KP Exploration is fortunate to have historical experience in the recovery of a number of these minerals. From Uranium to Lithium and then to the more ‘standard’ exploration metals like Gold, Silver and Copper; KP Exploration is fortunate to have a variety of techniques to employ and significant industry experience over many years to leverage on mineral exploration projects.
